Mineral Bonds – Premiere section, Art Basel, with Gypsum Gallery, 2025

Metal crops (flower fields V.), 14 x 19 cm, acrylic and shellac on wood
textIn her recent research journey (fall 2024) Charamandas traveled along the spine of the Andes and beyond—a journey across volcanic landscapes: Volcánes, Mujeres y sus Amistades (Volcanoes, women, and their friendships). In her new paintings resulting from this passage through altitude, geology, and memory Charamandas circles around the mineral kinship between land and body. Elements carried by mineral rich waters such as magnesium, calcium and iron— accumulate in geological formations over time and are equally essential for the formation of neural pathways and the transmission of signals across the body’s internal terrain.

I feel truly honoured to have been showing together with Basim Magdy. Endlessly greatful to Aleya Hamza for her vision and trust and to her most wonderful team Jamila Abdel-Razek and Sarah Sarofim. Thanks to my extended team for the support always; my family, Joshua Jörin and Johanna Schaible for the priceless support in the painting process, to Andrea Perales Covarrubias for the lovely studiovisit, conversation and filming, to Luca Mengisen and Joshua Jörin for colourgrading and contributing sound to the video, to Marcel Freymond and his family (my basel fam) for hosting me and for the conversations, to ProHelvetia and Atelier Mondial for the support and to everyone who knowingly or unknowingly keeps contributing - as we are sharing experiences l, as we are exchanging ideas, fears and dreams, as we are weaving new bonds towards more interconnected realities.
